Words That Last

Sermon Notes

Matthew 7:28–29 (NLT) — 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.

Matthew 12:36–37 (NLT) — 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”

I want us to look at five ways that make my words to impact eternity.

1.  My words change eternity when I use them to encourage someone who is struggling

Romans 1:12 (NLT) — 12 When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.

2.  Now the second way to change eternity with my words is this—I confront someone who is being unjust.

1 Corinthians 13:6 (NLT) — 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

3.  My words change eternity when I use them to express love to someone I care about.

1 John 3:18 (NLT) — 18 Dear children, lets not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

4.  My words can change eternity when I use them to introduce someone to Jesus.

Luke 15:10 (NLT) — 10 In the same way, there is joy in the presence of Gods angels when even one sinner repents.”

I want to share with you two quick ways that you can use your words to introduce someone to Jesus Christ.

  1. Share your personal story.
  2. Invite them to come to church with me.

Acts 20:24 (NLT) — 24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

5.  Finally, my words change eternity, my eternity, when I use them to say yes or no to Jesus.

Romans 10:9 (NLT) — 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Matthew 12:31–32 (NLT) — 31So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come.

Matthew 24:35 (NLT) — 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
