Conquering the Giants
Memory Verse:
“If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
– Romans 8:31
4“Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! 5 He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds. 6 He also wore bronze leg armor, and he carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder. 7 The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver’s beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds. His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield. 8 Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. ‘Why are you all coming out to fight?’ he called. ‘I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! 9 If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves! 10 I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!’11 When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken.” – 1 Samuel 17:4-11
HOW TO CONQUER THE GIANT OF FEAR IN MY LIFE
(4 Lessons from the Story of David & Goliath – 1 Samuel 17)
1. NAME ____________________________________ .
22 “David left his things with the keeper of supplies and hurried out to the ranks to greet his brothers. 23 As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, came out from the Philistine ranks. Then David heard him shout his usual taunt to the army of Israel. 24 As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright. 25 ‘Have you seen the giant?’ the men asked. “He comes out each day to defy Israel.” – 1 Samuel 17:22-25
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 4:6-7
2. ASK GOD TO ________________________________ WITH HIS __________________________________ .
32 ‘“Don’t worry about this Philistine,’ David told Saul. ‘I’ll go fight
him!’ 33 ‘Don’t be ridiculous!’ Saul replied. ‘There’s no way you can
fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been
a man of war since his youth’ 34 But David persisted. ‘I have been
taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,’ he said. ‘When a lion or a
bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, 35 I go after it with a club and
rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by
the jaw and club it to death. 36 I have done this to both lions and bears,
and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of
the living God! 37 The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion
and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!’ Saul finally consented.
‘All right, go ahead,’ he said. ‘And may the LORD be with you!’” – 1 Samuel 17:32-37
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
“What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.”
– Hebrews 11:1
3. MOVE ______________________________________ THROUGH MY FEAR.
1 Samuel 17:38–40 (NIV) — 38 Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. 40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
4. ________________ GOD’S _______________.
1 Samuel 17:50–51 (NLT) — 50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with only a sling and a stone, for he had no sword. 51 Then David ran over and pulled Goliath’s sword from its sheath. David used it to kill him and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they turned and ran.
2 Corinthians 13:4 (NLT) — 4 Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you we will be alive with him and will have God’s power.
Matthew 28:5–7 (NLT) — 5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”
Romans 6:4 (NLT) — 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
