The Prayers of Jesus – Prayer and God’s Protection
Matthew 6:9-13
9b Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
In the last verse of Jesus’ model prayer, he tells us to ask God for two things…
1. Lead us not into temptation…
2. Deliver us from the evil one…
Five Spiritual Realities for Life on Earth
1. Our real fight takes place in a _______________ ____________
where war rages on.
Ephesians 6:12 NLT
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
2. Satan, our archenemy, is on the warpath
and he knows his ______________ well.
1 Peter 5:8 NLT
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
3. God has already, decisively won this war (it was never even a contest), but he allows the battle to go on a while longer for his ________ ________________.
Romans 8:37 NLT
Despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
4. God has given you armor and weaponry that is spiritual in nature.
Ephesians 6:13-17 NLT
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
5. Prayer IS the battle plan for inviting heaven to invade and conquer.
Ephesians 6:18 NLT
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
