Managing Our Reluctance with God

Jonah 1:1–3 (NLT) — 1 The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” 3 But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.

The best judge of someone’s character is how he or she responds when faced with a challenging circumstance.

Prejudice is an ugly word.

Neither you nor I can take credit for the grace of God  has shown us!

  1. 1 – The word of the Lord came to Jonah……

v.2 – ….announce my judgement

  1. 3 – ….Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction

So, what are you running away from?

Psalm 139:7–12 (NLT) — 7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! 8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. 9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— 12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

What is in your heart that is causing you to resist Gods voice?

Where is the struggle in which you find yourself resisting God?
